The gang, which I will compare with the largest gang of Los Angeles County, is Yamaguchi-gumi, which is Japan’s largest and most famous Yakuza organization. Harukichi Yamaguchi was the founder of the Yamaguchi-gumi. Yamaguchi established the group in Kobe in 1915.  During the post-War rationing, the yakuza controlled the black market much in line with traditional tekiya operations. At the same time, they also moved into controlling major seaports as well as the entertainment industry. The biggest yakuza umbrella group, the Yamaguchi-gumi, emerged in the Kansai region, which had a large entertainment industry in the city of Osaka as well as a major seaport in Kobe. (more…)
