Structuring the Essay

Every essay consists of a basic structure i.e., an introduction, the main body and a conclusion in the last. If any of these components are missing in the essay it is incomplete and haphazard. Failing to structure the essay in this format can confuse the readers, and they may not continue reading the essay further. Whether an essay is short or very long this structure is always followed to make it coherent and organized. This article will help you write the essay in this very basic structure. Below are some easy tips to structure the essay.

The Introduction

The introduction is a very first part when writing the essay. It must be appealing and catchy to make the essay interesting and make the readers crave for more. It can begin with a question or a short story related to the topic to evoke curiosity. Provide some background information or introduce key ideas that you intend to use later in the main body. It must consist of thesis statement at the end to tell the reader about the main purpose of the essay.

The Main Body

After writing the introduction the main body follows. The main body of the essay is like a backbone as it supports the arguments in the essay. It consists of logical arguments along with facts and figures to prove or disprove the thesis statement. It consists of standalone paragraphs with subheadings. Every paragraph must use transitions.

The Conclusion

After writing the entire essay conclusion is written in the last. It consists of possible solutions posed by the problem question and personal views. It must not consist of a summary of the essay. It must be direct and to the point with a restatement of the thesis.

This is the basic structure of every essay, whether it is short or long. This structure keeps the essay organized, coherent and easy to understand.
