The population of the United States and the World is growing very fast, and even with major protection actions, demand for electricity is increasing. This is mainly true if we can move a large number of people from gasoline-powered cars to light rail and electric automobiles, both of which need a large quantity of electricity. Nuclear power is an established, safe, and efficient technology for production of electricity, and the technological concern of radiation management and waste management have long since been resolved. Nuclear technology has become a major part of life in the US, having a large number of advantageous applications for food, medicine, energy, and manufactured products.
While no source of electrical power generation is entirely safe, nuclear power has a remarkable record. About 20% of electricity generated in the U.S. comes from nuclear power, and in the last forty years of this production, not one single casualty has happened because of the operation of a resident nuclear power plant in the United States, Western Europe, Japan, or South Korea. No other form of energy production can even come close.

Al Gore, former Vice President, and an environmental expert have stated:

“Isn’t an indictment of nuclear power as such. Nuclear power, designed well, regulated properly, and cared for meticulously, has a place in the world’s energy supply.” [The lesson of Chernobyl] “Is not that we should retreat from new technology. The technology used for humane reasons, inhumane hands, holds the promise of improving the quality of our lives.” (1998)
