For over 50 years, America has had to deal with the problem of music censorship. In the Ed Sullivan show which was aired in 1957, Elvis Presley was allowed to be filmed only from his waist up (Nuzum). Since then, there has been much controversy surrounding the topic of censoring music and it is only recently that the media has begun to give much importance to this topic. People and organizations have both begun to take a stand and voice their opinion regarding this issue.
Amongst the many issues, the content of music is something which puts the First Amendment of the Constitution to work. Some people believe that in order to protect people, the lyrics of some songs and music should be censored. This is considered to be a way by which people will not be harmed by the content in songs. On the other hand, people are of the opinion that the First Amendment of the Constitution protects everyone’s right to have freedom of speech. Primarily, the argument comes down to whether or not censoring lyrics is something which can be accepted or not.
