Term Paper: Infant temperature

Sample Term Paper

Baby cries are normally associated with an increase in body temperature. This does not mean that the baby cannot cry in response to cold or low temperatures (Hauck et al. 2003, p. 1254). This problem is rare as most parents are successful in clothing their children with warmth clad. However, most baby cries are associated with abnormal increase in temperature. This condition is referred to as fever. Most fever are not serious as the may indicate the bodies response to infection though they can greatly affect a baby. Fevers of 38.4 to 39.5 degree centigrade are not very serious but they make the baby cry a lot too (1256). High fevers of up to 40 degree centigrade are considered fatal and are even worse in causing child cry. Fevers have been known to cause bouts of lethargy in babies, which may manifest in excessive crying. High temperatures cause a lot of irritability in babies. The baby may remain restless and depict some signs of discomfort in a particular environment.

Term Paper: Types of Crying among Babies

Sample Term Paper

There are three types of cries. Each may be caused by various stimulants that are responsible for each. The firs type is the pain cry (Long, 2004, p. 57). This type of cry has no preliminary signs of happening. It abruptly bursts in a loud sound followed by a breathing period. Parents are able to tell whatever is making their babies cry by simply looking at such features of the cry. The second type of baby cry is the basic cry (60). This type crying is manifested by a pattern of crying followed by silence. It usually begins in a brief cry followed by a silence moment and eventually a high-pitched outcry. It is caused by stimulants such as hunger. Anger cry is the third and last type of cry in infants (64). Compared to the other types of cry, anger cry is the most abrupt; it is the loudest and makes the baby force a lot of air through his or her vocal chords thus making that loud. This type of cry happens to be the longest of them all as the baby keeps on crying whenever the incidents that annoy him or her reappears.

Essay: Crying Infants

Sample Essay

Crying in 1-3 month olds is lesser as babies are at this stage are more aware of their surrounding (Kattwinkle, 1996, p. 1225). They have developed some communication skills, which their mothers have mastered and are able to respond swiftly. Parents are able to control their crying as they can read babies’ behavior. Colic crying happens at this age where the infant may uncontrollably cry. By the time infants are at the age of 3-6 months, crying is slightly less as most infants are able to understand their surrounding (Blair, 1999, p. 1460). Crying moments reduce even further as infants are between 7-9 moths. However, it is worthy to note that it is at this stage when babies start teething. This may make infants cry even more because of pain in their gums. Crying may reduce after teething although it may extent because of varied growth schedules for different infants. Teething extends into the 10 to one year. Therefore, it remains one of the causes of crying in babies. Main cause of crying in babies is usually associated with known factors such as hunger. It becomes easier for caretakers or mothers to take charge whenever their babies cry. Babies have started developing utterances of a few words and can at times verbally. This is even perfected at 12 to 18 months (Ford, 1993, p. 894). Crying related to infancy almost gone and children can be able to speak and make their demands heard.

Essay: Crying during breastfeeding

Sample Essay

This is the time babies are suckling milk from their mother’s breast. It is at this time when a mother’s breast may be producing much more milk than any other time (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2005, p. 496). Therefore, the milk might in one way or the other chock the baby if it is not able to swallow the milk in large quantities as it is released from the mother. As soon as milk ejection reflux is triggered, these mothers produce excessive milk, which becomes more of a bad thing to their babies. This is called overactive letdown reflux. Chocking is obviously imminent as the baby cannot off take the whole load of milk. The baby is therefore forced to cry from chocking, a sign that many mothers associate to their babies’ satisfaction.

Another condition called gastro-esophageal reflux (GER) is a common cause of baby cry during breast-feeding (Neifert, 2009, p. 67). A circular muscle separates the stomach and the esophagus, and it is not yet fully mature in infants. As the baby breastfeeds, stomach contents may end up into the esophagus making the baby throw up. This condition occurs mostly at the final stages of breast-feeding or just after (69).

Essay: Colic crying

Sample Essay

All babies undergo a fussy period in their early stages of development. However, this problem becomes extreme with some babies crying for about three hours a day (Barker, 2009, p. 49). This is a condition comes at about 3 weeks of age and last for about 6 weeks. It shows a peak period at about 4-6 weeks although this varies in different infants. Long (2004, p. 103), reveals that about 20 percent of babies do cry at this age to an extent that their cry can be described as colic. Colic episodes usually begin at almost the same time of the day with most infants crying more in the evenings. This may last for minutes or hours. The baby may or may not stop crying when they pass stool or gas (Barker, 2009, p. 57). Alternatively, the baby may stop crying when they get exhausted and sleep. This condition is care fully detected by first considering other medical problems such as intussusceptions, hernia, or hair tourniquet. A hair in the eye is also another possible cause that needs to be eliminated. Eliminating all possible cause of the condition is the best start point for intervening the problem.
