We should also consider the theories and models of Selman and Kohlberg in examining the literature on the cognitive and emotional development of individuals in middle childhood. Although sometimes – at least to adults – the moral, cognitive and emotional world of the child and especially the adolescent seems to be a chaotic place, in fact young people pass through a series of regular, predictable psychological states analogous to the progression of physical states that humans pass through as they sit up, then crawl, then walk. But while those physical states are visible and easily mapped, the cognitive and moral states are implicit, tacit and hidden. The result of this condition is that scholars disagree over the exact definition of each stage.
Selman (1997) has developed a model that focuses on the ways in which the perspective that an individual takes shifts as one grows older. The infant is egocentric, understanding the world through his or her own needs and believing that others act in a similar fashion. As we get older, Selman argues, we not only acquire the ability to empathize with others, to understand how they might interpret the world, but an understanding that their own complex view of the world – part egocentrism, part empathy, partly true, partly inaccurate – mirrors the complexity of the perspective that others share.

The movie Dance Me Outside revolves around the murder of Little Margaret Wolfchild. The murder is seen through the eyes of Silas Crow and how the people in the movie dealt with it. Little Margaret’s story depicts how racial bias can and will hurt other people no matter what side they are on.
The most inspiring feature of Bruce McDonald’s Dance Me Outside, in addition to its story, is the acting of its basically native and amateur young actors. They try to make real W.P. Kinsella’s tale of life on the Rez. Rez is the Indian reservation in Northern Ontario. Here the young people have to deal with usual adolescent troubles, such as relations with the opposite sex. Moreover the all pervasive prejudice, the bias and problems facing the native community in modern day Canada becomes even more prominent when one of the native girls is killed and the white man who is the prime suspect of the crime is let off with a minimum sentence. This leads to a reaction by the native community who want revenge because they feel betrayed by the Canadian justice system.

Introduction
Three Men in a Boat is a comic novel written by Jerome K. Jerome. This essay is a brief look at the author, the plot, the characters, and a brief analysis of the book.
Author
Jerome K. Jerome was born in Stafford shire in 1859, brought up in London, and left grammar school at 14. As a youth and in adolescent, he worked as a railway clerk, an actor, a freelance journalist, a private secretary, a purchasing agent, a parliamentary agent, and a solicitor’s clerk. In 1889, when Three Men in a Boat was published, he had only freshly become successful as a journalist and author. Though a relaxed, urbane man, Jerome was a persistent explorer of new ideas and experiences. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, was a pioneer of skiing in the Alps and visited Russia and America several times. He was a prolific writer whose work has been translated into numerous foreign languages, but as Jerome himself said: ‘It is as the author of ‘Three Men in a Boat’ that the public persists in remembering me.’
Plot
The novel, Three Men in a Boat tells the story of a holiday taken by three bachelors (and a dog), rowing a boat up the Thames from Kingston to Oxford and is part commentary on the absurd misadventures that was part of the trip and part parody of Victorian travelogues. It is the second aspect, which has dated; modern travel writers tend not to be as rhapsodic as the mid Victorians, neither they so determined to perk up the minds of their readers. This makes them less easy targets. A parodic element that has dated better is the way in which “J.” (The narrator) repeatedly derives silly lessons about how to live life from their familiarity.
